LegalSifter Control Template Customization
New Templates may require adjustment after creation. By clicking the Template name in the List (or the Template card in the Kanban view), users are shown the Template Customization Page.
Review the graphic below to familiarize yourself with the main sections of the Template Customization page.
Template Customization Page Tabs
On the Template Customization Page, there are three Tabs: Template, Library, and Admin. A description of each is below.
Template Tab
When a user opens the Template Customization Page, the default view is the Template Tab. The Template Tab provides a list view of the Template clauses with sections and subsections and is where section and subsection customization of the Template is performed. Adjustment of the clause language is also made in the Templates Tab. To customize the Template sections and/or clause language, users click the Edit button at the top right of the Template Action Buttons as seen in the graphic below.
Add Clause, Adjust Template Layout, and Clause Language Editing
In Edit mode on the Template Tab, new Sections and Clauses can be added to the Template and adjustments made to the Template layout. In the graphic below for example, clauses can be moved up and down in Template layout or, by clicking the three vertical dots, in-dented in or out as sub-clauses. Importantly, clauses can also be deleted, and the Manage Export Configuration option provides formatting options when generating the contract document, as explained below.
Manage Export Configuration
Each clause in the Template is configurable for distinct formatting and numbering when the contract document is being generated. For example, list-level indentation can follow an alphabetic pattern, a numerical pattern, or a customizable pattern, such as article 1, article 2, and so on. This and other pagination control is configured in the Manage Export Configuration pop-up modal window, as seen in the graphic below.
Changes made and then saved will appear as configured on the contract document generated.

Clause Search Field
The Clause Search field is valuable for locating key terms located in the clauses of the Template selected, as seen in the graphic below.
Library Tab
The Library Tab shows a list view of each contract file in the repository built using the selected Template and offers users a way to open the Document Quick View window by clicking on the name of a contract.
Similar to the Documents repository, the Library Tab provides a customizable table view, search document capability, and document field filters. Review the graphic below to familiarize yourself with the main sections of Library Tab view.
Customizable View Data Export
Another feature of the Library Tab is the ability to export the grid view to a .CSV spreadsheet file for reporting. Users click the Export button on the top right of the grid view and Choose Columns, as seen in the graphic below, export the view as a .CSV file.
Admin Tab
The final tab on the Template Customization page is the Admin Tab. Here, maintenance-level changes and configuration of the Template can be made. This includes Fields customization, Ticket Assembly Questions additions and adjustments, Template Activation and document formatting, and defining the Signature process.
A breakdown of each of the sections is below.
Fields
The Fields section displays the list of standard and custom fields utilized in the Template as part of the document generation process. Both Standard (i.e., System) and custom fields (covered in the next training module) appear. The Fields appear in a grid with the ability to Sync Fields and Add Fields.
Sync Fields
Templates can share a similar set of fields, and if desired, the exact same fields using the Sync Fields function. When Sync Fields is clicked, another window opens featuring a drop-down menu to select another Template to match Fields. Once selected, a new window appears to choose which fields (or all) to be sync’ed with another Template, as seen in the graphic below.
By selecting a field or fields and clicking the right or left buttons, the fields are added to the other Template.
NOTE: As fields are moved, they are removed from the side they were on but do not appear in the receiving column.
Add Field
A selection of new fields can be added to the Template library by clicking the Add Field button. A pop-up model window appears to select the field and configuration criteria, as seen in the graphic below.
The Fields drop-down list in the graphic above reveals a list of fields not currently being used for use in the Template. Additional settings include the Library toggle under Display Configuration. When the toggle is selected, this property appears in the Library Tab search as a column and filter.
Template History
Each change made to the Template is documented in the Template History section, including when the change was made, which user made the change, the action of the change, and details of the change.
Assembly Questions
Assembly Questions are designed to merge the responses automatically into the contract Template as users create a contract Ticket and allow the language of the clause in the Template to change based on the responses. The Assembly Questions section of the Admin Tab displays a list of questions and the capability to add additional questions by clicking + Add Question as seen in the graphic below.
The customizable question can be made a requirement of completing the template request and utilize one of many different forms of user response, including Text, Selection, or Multi-Selection as seen in the graphic below.
Each response in the question can have a different action and fallback language associated with answer, as seen and configured in the graphic below.
LegalSifter Control Training Task 27: Add an Assembly Question
Watch the following video to learn about how to Add an Assembly Question to a contract Template.
Assembly Configuration
Assembly Configuration provides a means to properly format the generated contract from a Template. The Assembly Style Template feature here is an MS Word document containing the base styles used when assembling the generated contract file.
NOTE: Every Template brought into the system comes with a default assembly style. This Template style should be downloaded, customized, and uploaded back to the template in Assembly Configuration.
Signature
The Signature section is where the choices of the e-Signature settings are configured. The settings include whether both parties will sign and if so, a designated default signer from the organization can be chosen for the Template, as seen in the graphic below.
