The Sifter Summary is a helpful workflow tool that contains a summary of all Sift results found in your Sifted Document.  The Sifter Summary can be used to navigate to concepts found by our Sifters in your Sifted Document and dismiss or display Sifter results.

Basic Functionality

When you open your Sifted Document, the Sifter Summary sits in a sidebar on the left hand side of the page.  To expand the Sifter Summary, click on the arrow located on the Sifter Summary sidebar.

Once the Sifter Summary is expanded you will have the option to expand and view the lists of Missing, Found and/or General Advice Sifter results by clicking on the appropriate arrow.

All Found and Missing Sifter results will be listed alphabetically in order of importance, meaning that Sifters set to warn if missing or flag if found will listed first in the Sifter Summary.

Navigating the Sifted Document with the Sifter Summary

Once you fully expand the Sifter Summary and the list of Found results, you can use the Sifter Summary as an interactive table of contents to navigate to various concepts located by our Sifters in the Document.  Simply click on a Sifter result on the Found list in the Sifter Summary and you will be taken to the location of that Sifter result in the Sifted Document.  The text located by the Sifter will be highlighted and the Advice for the Sifter will be expanded on the right hand side of the page.

Using the Sifter Summary to Dismiss and Restore Individual Sifter Results

All Sifter results displayed with a checkmark on the Sifter Summary are present in the Sifted Document.  If you want to dismiss a Sifter result uncheck the box next to that result.  If you want to display a previously dismissed Sifter result, simply re-check the box next to that result.

You always have the option to individually dismiss a Sifter result by clicking checkmark in the Sift result on the right hand side of the Sifted Document.  Indeed, you may naturally do this as you are reading the Sifted Document and reviewing the Sifter results in context. However, the only way to individually restore a dismissed Sifter result is to recheck the box next to that Sifter on the Sifter Summary.

Bulk Dismiss and Bulk Restore

The Sifter Summary can also be used to "bulk dismiss" (dismiss all) and "restore all" Sifter results.

To dismiss all Sifter results in the Sifted Document simultaneously, uncheck the boxes next to Missing, Found and General Advice (if applicable) in the Sifter Summary as shown in the screenshots below. Once these boxes are unchecked there will be no Sifter results or Advice on the right-hand side of the Sifted Document and all boxes next to the individual Sifter results will be unchecked on the Sifter Summary.

After bulk dismissing the Sifter results you can bulk restore the Sifter results by rechecking the boxes next to Found, Missing and General Advice. Or you can restore Found and Missing Sifter results individually by checking the box next to the applicable result.

You can also bulk dismiss or restore all Found and Missing Sifter results from the top menu, adjacent to the document abstract, sifter trainer, share and export links.  The checkmarks work exactly like the bulk dismiss and restore all in the Sifter Summary.

Using the Sifter Summary Strategically

Here are some tips and tricks that may help you use the Sifter Summary to Sift more efficiently.

  • Expand the Sifter Summary immediately after opening your Sifted Document and navigate to the issues that are most important to you first. Then review the remaining results in context as you read the Sifted Document.

  • Use the Sifter Summary to filter your results.  For example, if you want to review the Found results, dismiss the Missing and General Advice results.  You can always restore them later by checking a box!

  • After you are done reviewing and editing your Sifted Document in the LegalSifter Review application, use the bulk dismiss feature on the formatting toolbar or the Sifter Summary to dismiss all Sifter results.  This will leave you with a clean document to export to Word.

  • If you want or need to export a few Sifter results to Word after using bulk dismiss to clean up your Sifted Document, check the boxes next to only those necessary results on the Sifter Summary before exporting. Using this approach will minimize the number of comments you need to refine or remove in Word.
